Beware

Although we are somewhat confused by it, we are told on a regular basis that people find us intimidating. Individually, and especially as a group. We do not feel particularly intimidating, and we do not try to intimidate. But we are willing to use it to our advantage if someone tries to push us around.
Being pushed around, walked on, abused, etc. either breaks you, or makes you incredibly strong. We are notbroken, and we have learned how to pick our battles. We have just chosen this one.

Sure, maybe this time it’s only one person being pushed, but there are ten more people behind that person who have a vested interest.
It is like the foot soldiers who form a circle with shields raised over the center to protect the ones in the middle. You will never reach them and you will be sorry you tried.
We do not have an influential name. We are not wealthy enough to sway people’s minds. We are a family of nobodies from the backside of nowhere, but we are after all a family, the likes of which few have ever encountered. We are well aware that there is no one in the world that will back us up, but we are accustomed to that. It has been a long time since it has been anyone but “you and me against the world” so we are pretty good at it now.
Worldly goods and influence aside, we are quite possibly the most intelligent group of people you will ever encounter. So when you choose to take us on, you are taking on a think-tank like no other.

We have more angles than a dodecahedron, perspectives you haven’t considered, and experiences you’ve never heard of.

Prepare to be intimidated.

From these verses in the Bible I gather that it is a glory for a woman to have her natural hair, whether or not it is long. And if it is a glory for the woman, the glory goes to her husband or father, which in turn gives the glory to God.

And there is the reason I don't cut my hair.

Hmm. I hate being sick. I hate not being able to taste anything I eat. But I enjoy my Home. I enjoy babysitting the kids from church. I enjoy being able to make MOTN supper. I just don't like my throat being so swollen I can't swallow.

I think I am going to hate whatever my group does for the presentation at church. Most of the girls aren't going to show up and it will probably just be me and Miss B. up there, and maybe Rico. I don't like going up on stage in the best of circumstances (the best of circumstances being with a group and no solos) and I hate doing anything where I have to be up there alone... And that is how it is going to end up. I don' t want to paint the girls in a bad light, they just aren't interested.

Letter to the World

(And everybody else, too)

Hello nicely to everyone! How are you? Is everyone still there and ok? Good! Now, we have to get back to what we were doing. What were we doing? I don’t remember. What will we do? I think we need to write down what we are doing, so we don’t forget what we are doing, k? Now we have to find out what we have to do now. Do you know what we should do now? How about you? Or you? Can you help me find out what we are supposed to be doing right now?........ This is going to be a long day. Anyway, maybe we are supposed to be eating, or drinking water, or walking, or swimming, or running, or taking a bath, or taking a shower, or drying our hair, or changing our clothes, or reading, or playing the computer, or playing outside, or training the dog, or doing schoolwork, or feeding the hamster, or feeding the dog, or feeding the cat, or feeding the lizard, or feeding the fish, or feeding the butterfly...

Is that weird or what?
At the time I had all those strange and odd and slightly unnerving animals, although I still have dogs, cats and fish, and had a lizard a few days ago. :-)

Now for what I usually post on, animals!
This particular post is on Lizards...

Most Missouri lizards are long, slender reptiles with scales, a long tail and four legs with claws on their toes. They are different from snakes because they have legs, ear openings and eyelids. However, as with other animals, there are exceptions: The western slender glass lizard, which lives in many Missouri counties, is legless, but has eyelids and ear openings, which snakes lack.
Habitats

Our lizards live in three types of habitats: forests, glades and prairies. Those living in forests use clearings, where they bask in the sun on fallen logs. Glade species bask in the sun on rocks, as well as take shelter under them at night. Prairie lizards have no problem finding places to bask, but they take shelter in animal burrows or under dead grass.
Lizard Skin

Missouri's lizards all have scales and a tough outer skin. Just like snakes, lizards must shed their skin so they can grow. A lizard's outer skin normally comes off in large pieces three or four times during the summer.
What Lizards Eat and What Eats Lizards

All of our lizards eat insects (grasshoppers, ants, crickets and beetles) and spiders. They are valuable as a natural control of destructive species, such as termites. Skinks and fence lizards are known to eat the winged life stage of termites (called "alates") as they emerge from underground in mid-spring. And, the eastern collared lizard is an important predator of other lizards!

King snakes and racers will eat lizards at every opportunity. The roadrunner, a bird that lives on glades in southwest Missouri, is a primary lizard eater. Hawks are important lizard predators. Skunks and badgers dig up lizard eggs. Unfortunately, house cats have proven to be a primary predator of all species of lizards.
Tongues and Teeth

Lizards use their tongue to pick up odors in their environment. They use their small, strong teeth to grab and crush insects. If you capture a large skink or a fence lizard, its bite will feel like nothing more than a pinch. However, collared lizards have a larger head and strong jaws and can cause a superficial bite that may bleed slightly.
The Tail Saves the Day

A lizard can release a part or all of its tail when it is grabbed by a predator. Once the tail is broken off, the lizard quickly runs for shelter and is safe for the moment, leaving a squirming tail to confuse or distract the predator. A lizard's tail has special muscles that constrict at a break point and prevent any blood loss.After a lizard has lost its tail, a "new" one will eventually grow back, but it will not be as colorful or elegant as the original. It may take three or four months to grow the replacement.Eggs and YoungAll Missouri lizards lay eggs. Most female lizards will lay their eggs in a burrow in loose soil, under a flat rock or in rotten logs and leave them.Skinks (common, shiny-looking lizards) and glass lizards are different. They lay their eggs under a flat rock or inside a rotten log and stay with the eggs until they hatch. They guard their eggs from being eaten by other lizards.The size of lizard eggs depends on the species. For example, our smallest lizard, the ground skink, lays from two to seven eggs that average under a half-inch long.Newly hatched lizards are small and are on their own, with no help or protection from the female. Ground skink hatchlings are only 2 inches long -- small enough to curl up on a dime with room to spare.

The red wolf has been persecuted since colonial times. There are few cases in American history where any wolf has ever been protected from hunters and trackers. Our national parks have become sanctuaries for wild animals, but wolves have not found adequate protection in them; they were considered a threat to the existence of other game animals. The trapper has pursued the red wolf with steel traps and poison bait, forgetting that he does man a service in destroying rodents and rabbits that are often detrimental to crops and that compete with domestic animals for food.
A tribute to the cunning and intelligence of the red wolf is the fact that he has retreated into areas unspoiled by man and is able to remain out of reach of the hunter. May his howl be heard in the woods and swamps and prairies for many years to come!

Little has been written about the family life or habits of the red wolf, but we can assume they are probably similar to those of the gray wolf (page 16) or coyote (page 52). Four to seven pups are usually born at a time. The mother is a competent nurse, leaving the den for short periods of time to procure food left by her mate, then returning to her litter. The father hunts diligently to supply his family with food until the young are ready to leave the den several weeks later. As the pups grow and their appetites become more demanding, it requires the combined efforts of the parents to feed themselves and the young ones.
The pups are intelligent and quickly learn the rudiments of stalking and hunting by observing the adult wolves. The parents are patient with the playful offspring, continuing the schooling until they are full grown, and in many cases maintaining a social relationship even after they are fully self-supporting.

Like other members of the dog family, wherever the red wolf travels he follows established scent posts, whether along his own runways or in alien hunting territory. The post may be a clump of dry grass, a tree, stump, rock, or (this is not in the book, just an opinion, this part is gross) the carcass of a dead animal, or any other object along the path. Here he stops to gather information concerning other wolves that have recently passed along the way, leaves his own personal message, then travels on. The mating season takes place late in winter, and once a compatible relationship of male and female is established, the pair remains together for the remainder of the year, and many times continues to travel together year after year.
The hunting range of the red wolf does not extend over a wide area unless food is scarce and he is forced to travel to obtain food. He prefers sandy river bottoms, a wooded spot with plenty of brush cover, or a sheltered bank on a sunny slope for a home site. Before the young are born in April or May, the parents prepare a main lodge and several other places of refuge within the range of the runway, where they can seek shelter or move the pups if danger threatens. The red wolf is not too proud to occupy second-hand quarters, finding the burrow of a fox, or coyote quite satisfactory, once it is thoroughly cleaned and enlarged.

Here is some more on Red Wolfs...

In coloring and physical characteristics the red wolf so nearly resembles the coyote that the two are often confused. The wolf is larger than the coyote, reaching a height of the 26 to 28 inches at the shoulder, a height comparable to that of the gray wolf, but he is much leaner and seldom weighs more than seventy toeighty pounds. His latin name means "blacke dog," but he is far more commonly yellowish or red than black. The color of the coat varies with the individual, the red phase being a bright golden red, while in others the color ranges from reddish brown or yellow to grayish black, all with white or lighter under parts and dark brown legs. Frequently black-tipped hair grows on the back and tail. The red wolf has long, slender legs, ashorter muzzle than the gray wolf, and reportedly carries his tail in a hori zontal position when running or trotting.
The red wolf is indiscriminate in his food habits, welcoming carrion where-ever he finds it, hunting for rabbits and rodents, and partaking of some vegetable matter to round out his diet. In the hardwood forests and swampy bayous he stalks the wild turkey, migrating waterfowl, razorback hogs, raccoons, foxs, frogs, birds, and crabs, and searches for the newborn fawn of the white-tailed deer. The competition for food is extremely keen in wolf country, and the red wolf must spend most of his waking hours in search of prey.

I love all animals, so most of my posts will be about animals. Heres one about the Red Wolf. Did you know?.......

CANIS NIGER,the red wolf or the Texas red wolf, is the all-American wolf. Unlike his gray relative, the red wolf has no close ties in other countries.
While the hardy gray wolf has retreated to the rugged, mountainous regions of the west and north , the little red wolf prefers a milder climate in southeastern Texas,Oklahoma, Arkansas, some of the Gulf states, and the upper and lower Mississippi River valleys. In former days his range was apparently much more extensive, reaching into all the southern Gulf states, east of the Mississippi river for some distance, into many regions of the Southwest, and even into florida.
During the early days of the open range and great cattle drives from Texas to the north, the cowboy warred on the red wolf, for marauding packs of hungry wolves were a constant threat to livestock. Whenever athe carcass of a half-eaten steer was sighted, the cowman immediately placed the blame at the door of the wolf. The animal might have died from natural causes or injuries inflicted during the drive, but this made no difference. The cry of "Wolf, wolf," sounded throughout the length and breadth of the cattle country, and a united drive was made to destroy them wherever they were to be found. The drive was almost successful, and today the red wolf exists in much reduced numbers in limited territories, and is in great danger of becoming extinct.

I know who first flew around the South pole! It was Commander Richard E. Byrd. How about I just quote the news story?

Byrd ends vast Antarctic air survey
Nov 29. Commander Richerd E. Byrd and three companions returned to their home base at Little America in the Antarctica today after completing the first flight over the South Pole. The polar flight is part of a systematic effort by Byrd and his team to explore the uncharted five million square miles of the Antarctic continent. the achievement was made possible by a flight on November 18, during which Byrd established a supply base 40 miles south of Little America.
Flying a Ford trimotor, the Byrd party took off from Little America at 10:29 p.m. yesterday. The aircraft stopped for an hour to refuel at the supply base and arrived over the South Pole at 8:15 this morning, after a hazardous, wind-buffeted flight. Byrd cyrcled the pole for his home base. It landed at Little America at 10:10 a.m. Among other discoveries, Byrd and the dog team party he sent out have found two previously uncharted Antarctic mountain ranges, which they hope to explore more thoroughly in a series of expeditions.
